15 Flights Diverted to Lucknow Due to Bad Weather in Delhi, Airport Handles Surge Smoothly

Lucknow | As poor weather and low visibility disrupted flight operations in Delhi on Monday, a total of 15 flights were diverted to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, where they were handled efficiently without affecting scheduled services.

Mix of Domestic and International Flights

The diverted flights included both international and domestic routes. International arrivals were from Kathmandu, Muscat, and Phuket, while domestic flights originated from cities such as Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad (two flights), Coimbatore, Aurangabad, Jaipur (four flights), Bengaluru, and Lucknow.

In addition, at least three flights—6E6476 (Delhi–Lucknow), 6E179 (Hyderabad–Lucknow), and 6E146 (Chandigarh–Lucknow)—were reported to be holding mid-air temporarily due to adverse weather conditions in Lucknow before landing clearance was granted.

Seamless Operational Management

Despite the sudden influx of aircraft, airport authorities ensured that routine flight schedules remained unaffected. Officials credited the newly developed East Apron area for enabling smooth handling of the diverted traffic.

The additional apron space allowed aircraft to be parked and serviced without disrupting the movement of scheduled flights. Ground teams coordinated closely to manage arrivals, parking, and turnaround efficiently.

Role of East Apron Infrastructure

The East Apron, recently added under the airport’s expansion plan, proved crucial in managing the unexpected surge. It provided the necessary capacity and flexibility to accommodate extra aircraft while maintaining operational flow.

All Flights Safely Handled

All 15 diverted flights were safely accommodated at the airport and later departed for their respective destinations once weather conditions in Delhi improved.

The incident highlights the growing importance of robust airport infrastructure and preparedness, especially during weather-related disruptions, reinforcing Lucknow’s role as a key aviation support hub in northern India.
